What Calls You to a Destination?
We've all heard of jet-setting. You know, the person who travels frequently simply because they love to travel. There's always somewhere new to explore, and honestly, that's a perfectly good reason to pack your bags.
But I'm curious—is that your travel style? Or are you more of a set-jetter or literary traveler?
What's the difference? Let's talk about it.
Jet-setting is basically just that. Traveling to new places for no other reason than wanting to go, explore and experience somewhere new.
Set-jetting is a little different. More travelers are choosing destinations because of a favorite movie or television show that sparked their curiosity. Maybe you want to stand in the place where a favorite scene was filmed or find out if that destination feels the same in person as it did on the screen.
Then there are literary travelers.
Perhaps a book captured your imagination so completely that you want to experience the place that inspired it, where the story was set, or the places connected to the author. Maybe you want to walk through history in a modern-day setting and let your imagination take you back in time. Or you've read about a place so many times that eventually you just need to see it for yourself.
All of these are wonderful reasons to visit somewhere new.
But what about that destination?
The one your mind wanders to when you're daydreaming. The one that still feels like a distant dream but, for whatever reason, keeps calling you back.
Why that place?
Did you first see it in a favorite movie or television show?
Did it inspire that one book you can get lost in time and time again?
Or does that calling come from somewhere deeper? Maybe ancestral ties have left you curious about your own family history and what it would feel like to walk the streets your ancestors once walked.
Sometimes we know exactly why a destination is calling us.
Sometimes we don't.
And maybe figuring out the why is part of the journey.
