What Makes a Great Journey? Part 1: Finding the Right Pace
How you want to feel and experience a destination is just as important as where you want to go.
Some travelers love full days filled with museums, walking tours, and checking off every must-see attraction. Others are happiest lingering over coffee in a quiet square, watching the world go by. Most of us fall somewhere in between.
Neither way is right or wrong.
The best journeys happen at a pace that feels right for you.
Packing too much into a trip can leave you feeling like you need a vacation after your vacation. On the other hand, leaving space to slow down often creates the moments we remember most. An unhurried meal overlooking the water. An afternoon wandering without a plan. Sitting on a balcony as the sun sets in a place you've never been before.
When your itinerary matches your travel style, the entire journey feels different. You're not racing from one stop to the next. You're actually enjoying where you are.
That's one reason I appreciate itineraries that offer choices. Whether it's a river cruise with several excursion options, a destination where you can explore at your own pace, or a tour with enough personal time to feel less escorted and more curated, having the freedom to decide how active you want to be makes the journey more enjoyable.
Travel shouldn't feel like a race to see everything. It should feel like time well spent.
When you think back on your favorite trip, do you remember how much you did, or how it made you feel?
The answer might shape your next journey more than the destination itself.
If you're ready to plan a journey that matches the way you love to travel, I'd be happy to help.
